I was just trying to get more personal for my next video so that at least y'all can know my story....and I ended up deciding to create an entire college advice series. 🤦🏾♀️
And honestly, making that decision made me even more excited to write scripts and record & edit videos.
For this first episode, I wanted to take y'all back to the beginning - back to where it all started at Cal State Long Beach in 2016...
I came in as a Pre-Nursing major and was determined that I was going to get my Nursing degree from CSULB too. Now if any of you know about CSULB's Nursing program, then you know that it is quite competitive to get into. I did very well and kept my confidence up in the first year, then somewhere along the way, I lost my confidence.
I lost my "why".
I was, and still am, a very ambitious person. So it was not hard for me to do all of the things that were recommended, like internships and building relationships with professors. But my grades started slipping to B's and one C - and suddenly, I couldn't remember why I was working so hard or what I was doing all of this for. At the same time, I was beginning to realize how unhappy I was in my day-to-day life. It felt like my life had been consumed by this goal that some other person made for me.
I was no longer connected to the girl that declared she would be a Nurse no matter what. But that didn't stop me from trying to keep up that image, both for myself and others.
I tried to "toxic positivity" my way out of a mental rut. Lucky for me, it didn't work.
As you can imagine, with those kinds of grades, I did not get into the one Nursing school that I applied to at CSULB. And even though the goal didn't feel like mine anymore, I was still devastated.
Not only that, but I was also deeply embarrassed. What am I supposed to tell people now that my goal wasn't accomplished? Who am I now that all of the things I worked towards were stripped from me?
I had to find a new dream. And I found that dream in Healthcare Administration.
Watch my video to hear more about the things I considered and how I ultimately made this decision!
